Once upon a time, there was a strong young man named Sangkuriang. He lived in a very pretty land. The land had green trees and soft hills. Sangkuriang was happy there.

One day, he saw a woman. Her name was Dayang Sumbi. Sangkuriang liked her very much. He thought she was kind. He wanted to marry her. He wanted to be with her every day. He told her he wanted to marry her.

Dayang Sumbi looked at Sangkuriang. She saw a mark on his arm. She knew that mark. She knew it again from long ago. She felt a shock. Sangkuriang was her son. Her son who was lost a long time ago. She felt very sad and worried. She could not marry her son. She needed a plan to stop him.

Dayang Sumbi had a plan. She gave Sangkuriang a big job. He must build a very big dam. He must also build a very large boat. He had to do all the work in one night. It was a very, very hard job. No one could do it so fast.

Sangkuriang worked very hard. He used his great strength. He pushed big rocks. He pulled heavy trees. He built the dam quickly. It grew tall and strong. Then he started the boat. He worked fast on the boat too. He was almost done. The boat was almost ready. He was very close to being done.

But Dayang Sumbi tricked him. She used her magic. She made the sky look bright. It looked like the morning sun was coming. Sangkuriang saw the bright sky. He thought he failed. He did not finish on time. He felt very sad. He had worked so hard.

Then Sangkuriang felt very angry. He was so mad. He kicked the big boat with all his power. The boat flew up into the air. It flew far away. Then it fell down. It turned into a big mountain. The mountain looks like a boat. People call it the boat mountain. This story teaches us to be patient and accept what happens.
